What is the Road to Mental Readiness (R2MR) Mobile Application?

• It is a bilingual mobile training resource developed as a supplement to traditional classroom instruction, aimed at enhancing short-term performance and fostering long-term mental health resilience.
• The application offers essential tools and resources to aid in the management and support of Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members, their families, and the wider community.
• R2MR training is structured in layers and customized to address the specific demands and responsibilities faced by CAF personnel at various stages of their careers and during deployments.

EXPANDING BEYOND TRADITIONAL TRAINING

Acknowledging that repeated practice of mental skills enhances retention and effectiveness, the R2MR program has extended its reach beyond conventional classroom settings. This expansion includes delivering personalized training tools directly to CAF members via the mobile application, empowering course instructors to integrate mental skills coaching into standard training exercises, and enabling military leadership to mentor these skills throughout the career cycle.

Furthermore, integration with Apple’s Health app, HealthKit, facilitates measurable outcomes such as heart rate monitoring before, during, and after engaging in R2MR’s Tactical Breathing exercise. When permission is granted for access to health data, users can track physiological responses, allowing a more comprehensive understanding of stress management techniques. As noted by Apple, “your app can become a valuable health data source and HealthKit can use the shared data to bring more powerful health and fitness solutions.”
